The 2018–19 season has finally come to an end. And what a year it has been! Closely contested leagues , wonderful matches , and some absolutely jaw-dropping goals! Despite it being a very tight battle across all divisions and tournaments , there were some sides that consistently stood out , played brilliant football , and made us go “WOW!” every now and then. So here’s my take on the top 5 European football clubs of the season gone by….

5. JUVENTUS F.C

The Italian side had a fairly good season on the whole and came alive on various clutch occasions. With the great Christiano Ronaldo leading the strike force and taking charge , Juventus managed to stay afloat in all their outings up till the latter stages and remained a force to be reckoned with , throughout the season. While they did lack the big match temperament and consistent support to CR7 , they still delivered a Serie-A title win and a quarter-final finish in the Champions League. (SEASON RATING: 7/10)

4. TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

The Spurs were much like the waves of the ocean - they went up high , then stooped down to a low , and finally finished high! Though they looked down and out at one point of time , their star players like Harry Kane , Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min stepped up when it mattered the most with some staggering play that earned them a fourth-place finish in the Premier League , an FA Cup fourth round exit , and a runners-up finish in the Champions League. (SEASON RATING: 7.5/10)

3. F.C BARCELONA

The Catalan giants were dominant all along the season , but just lost some steam towards the fag end of their campaign. Although the legendary Lionel Messi was unstoppable yet again and kept scoring goals at will , Barcelona were complacent at times and succumbed to pressure on a few big occasions , thus ruining what could’ve been an annihilating season of perfection for them. Never the less , they will be pretty happy with their La Liga triumph , semi-final finish in the Champions League where they suffered a devastating loss against Liverpool , and second-place finish in the Copa Del Rey. (SEASON RATING: 8/10)

2. LIVERPOOL F.C

The English side made this year their own and lit up Anfield with their stunning skills , smart tactics courtesy Jurgen Klopp , and some inspired football that produced goals that were a treat to the eye , as well as tight defending and remarkable saves from Alisson. They just missed out on winning the Premier League trophy by a solitary point as Manchester City reigned supreme yet again! The only thing keeping them from the top spot on the list is their poor run in the FA Cup , which sadly overlooked the fact that they had a truly well-deserved championship victory in the Champions League! (SEASON RATING: 9/10)

  1. MANCHESTER CITY

Yet another near perfect season for Pep Guardiola and his men. A fabulous team with everyone complementing each other and doing their tasks efficiently. The English greats were balanced and always looking to change gears and go for the kill! Their impeccable football and relentlessness resulted in a Premier League title retention , an FA Cup championship , and a quarter-final finish in the Champions League , where they unfortunately got beaten by Tottenham on away goals! (SEASON RATING: 9.5/10)
